TOP MOVIES OF 2018
Hey guys!
So, 2018 was a brilliant year for movies. We got some true gems this year and some disappointments. However, most movies were awesome and are sure to be in our minds for a long, long time. Let's get into some of my favorite movies of the year. Keep in mind, these are only movies I have seen so if you don't see your favorite movie of the year, you can contact me personally, with my social media accounts as listed below,
Let's get right into it!
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT
Mission Impossible: Fallout is the sixth entry in the Mission Impossible franchise and it's very rare that a movie series remains entertaining even in its sixth film. Even after 22 years, people still flocked to the theatre in huge numbers to watch Tom Cruise play out his death-wish on the big screen. With Christopher McQuarrie behind the camera, it was filled with blood-pumping action and death-defying stunts done by the 56-year-old Tom Cruise himself. Fun Fact: Henry Cavill, who plays the villain in this film, was 13 when the first film came out! No other series has been so rewatchable even after these many films. I have to include this in the post. My favorite scene in all of the movies released last year was Hanry Cavill reloading his fist like they were a pistol. You know which one I'm talking about. Anyways, great action combined with a good story, there was no doubt that this movie was gonna be on this list.
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
Without a doubt, Bohemian Rhapsody was my most awaited movie of the year. With Bryan Singer behind the camera and Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury, this movie was an absolute blast from the start to end. With the karaoke styled lyrics on screen from literally the first to the last shot of the film, it was a pure joy ride. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. Even with its flaws and shortcomings, it remains a hell of an entertaining film. It delves into the personal life of Freddie Mercury, the legendary lead singer of the popular 80s band Queen. Undoubtedly, one of the most enjoyable films of the year!
SPIDERMAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE
Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse was undoubtedly the Best Animated film of the year (and this is the same year as the much awaited Incredibles 2). With stunning visuals and a compelling story, this was a brilliant watch. Every moment was equivalent to reading a beautiful comic book. This movie is pure eye-candy. Every shot is beautifully animated with nods to several notable comic book artists. This movie is easter-eggs galore for the keen viewer. The movie also boasts an awesome soundtrack with hits from artists like Post Malone and Vince Staples. The action is beautiful and overall, it's a very entertaining watch.
THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a Netflix exclusive movie directed by the great Coen brothers, behind The Big Lebowski and No Country for Old Men. It's a collection of 6 short films in the post Civil War USA old West. Starring greats like James Franco and Liam Neeson and some relatively unknown actors, Ballad is a beautiful movie. Both, story-wise and visually. Beautiful long shots and incredible wide shots make this movie the beauty it is. This movie is a must watch for all those who enjoy visual beauty and great story! Honestly one of the best movies of the year!
ANDHADHUN
It's very rare that I watch a Hindi movie that sticks with me even after a month of watching it. Andhadhun follows the story of a blind piano player who witnesses a murder and the chaos that ensues. Filled with plot twists and brilliant story-telling and a thrilling plot-line, Andhadhun is an epic movie that can still be enjoyed after a number of rewatches. Andhadhun also displays human greed and ridicules the people of the 21st century who value money more than human life. It also tells how kindness and niceness can be very helpful in all situations. It is also filled with awesome music an some of the best use of Beethoven in a movie. Andhadhun is a must watch
