Johnny English Strikes Again Spoiler Free Review!

Hey guys!!
So, Johnny English Strikes Again just came out in theatres and being a longstanding Rowan Atkinson fan, I just had to watch it the first chance I got.  So, without further ado, here are my thoughts on Johnny English Strikes Again.

PLOT:
When a huge cyber attack takes place on London, leaving the identity of every active MI7 agents exposed, retired agent Johnny English is called upon to get to the bottom of these attacks and find the man responsible.

CAST:
Rowan Atkinson: Johnny English
Olga Kurylenko: Miss Bulletova
Ben Miller: Bough
Emma Thompson: Prime Minister
Jake Lacy: Jason Volta

REVIEW:
For starters, Johnny English Strikes Again is a fairly short movie, with a runtime of 1 hour 30 minutes and has a fairly small cast. With director David Kerr (of 2016’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream), I knew not to expect a lot of it and I was correct. The movie is hilarious, no doubt, but there are various elements in the film to bring it down.

For starters, other than Rowan Atkinson and Emma Thompson, no one seemed like they wanted to be a part of the movie. Jake Lacy’s villain was a clichéd one, with a lackluster performance. He tried to act villainous and monstrous, but really, the most horrifying thing he does in the movie is say “Shut up”. Olga Kurylenko fails to amaze the audience, and her presence on screen becomes annoying after a while.

The plot itself is an old, tried and tested one and somehow, filled with plot holes. The action in the movie is not thrilling, but that is excusable as the movie aims to be a comedy and that is why most of the movie’s action sequences are shot with a comical angle to them and the fighting isn’t done very seriously.

This brings me to my main plus-point for the movie. At any given moment in time, from its very opening to the last shot of the film, it manages to keep the audience in splits and laughing uncontrollably at Rowan Atkinson’s famous antics. It is a stomach-paining comedy suitable for all ages.

All in all, I would say that if you’re walking into the theatre expecting a thrilling action movie or an engaging spy movie, you’ll be disappointed. But if you expect a pant-wetting comedy, it’s worth your money. I would give this movie a 2/5.

THE CINEMA OF ART: The Seventh Seal

Hey guys! So, last night I watched Ingmar Bergman's 1957 masterpiece, The Seventh Seal. The film  is largely in the Swedish language. and is perhaps one of the most deeply profound, complex, and brilliant films I have seen.  The film follows a knight, Antonius Block (Max Von Sydow), and his squire, J (Gunnar Bjornstrand), as they return home from the Crusades. He comes home to find his country ravaged by the plague. When he arrives, he is greeted by Death, who has been following him for quite a while. Antonius challenges Death to a game of chess to prolong his life so that he can look for answers regarding his questions about God.  All the while, the Knight and his squire journey throughout the land gathering a troupe of different people and witnessing the horrors and the cruelty that the plagu e has brought about in people.  So today, I will try to explain two of the most prominent themes of the film: God and Humanity.

Wonder Woman 84 - Spoiler Free Review

Hey guys! So... I haven't done one of these in a while huh. Well, I just saw Wonder Woman 84 and it's the only superhero blockbuster comic book movie I have seen all year... quite literally. So given that, it's probably the best movie in that genre I saw all year. So, this is my spoiler-free review of Wonder Woman 84.  PLOT: After a mysterious stone that grants wishes appears at the Smithsonian Museum, gemologist and superhero Diana Prince must stop it from falling into the wrong hands, all the while battling demons both new and of her past. CAST: Diana Prince/Wonder Woman - Gal Gadot Steve Trevor - Chris Pine Barbara/Cheetah - Kristen Wiig Maxwell Lord - Pedro Pascal REVIEW WW84 is a pretty fun film. It's 2 and a half hours long, and almost the entire runtime is filled with fun jokes and pretty decent action scenes. It works like a standard comic book film affair. You have your pinnacle-of-good superhero, absurd action that's PG-13; it's the kind o...

Wake Up, Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Spoiler Free Review)

What an apt movie name to revive this blog with, huh? Hey guys. I started this blog when I was 15, obsessed with movies and regularly reading and writing. Now I am 23, with three degrees, no job, just a handful of dreams. So, I've decided to get back into full-time writing on my own. I will be posting here, on my Substack, and Medium. Hopefully, this works out. That said, here's what I thought of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery .  Poster for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery , Netflix The film is the third in the Knives Out film franchise, written and directed by Rian Johnson, starring Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, and shot by cinematographer Steve Yedlin. The film also stars Josh O' Connor as Father Jud Duplenticy, who is the prime suspect in the case. Blanc must race against time to prove his innocence. ...
