RAMPAGE - SPOILER FREE MOVIE REVIEW
Hey, guys!
So, Dwayne Johnson's first blockbuster film is here and boy, is it entertaining. No, in fact, entertaining is a bit of an understatement for the movie... It's a recipe for awesomeness. With one super-hit after another, it seem that the Rock is going to rock the big screen for a while now. Enough with the puns, lets get on with the review:
PLOT:
In this movie, Dwayne Johnson plays a primatologist who has a friend in an albino gorilla, which is the last of it's kind. When it gets infected by a pathogen crashing from space and starts growing rapidly in size, speed, strength and agility, Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) along with his new friend Kate Cladwell, an expert on genetic editing, have to stop the albino gorilla, named George, and two other genetically mutaged animals from destroying the world.

REVIEW:
So the movie is a pretty standard, generic action film. It delivers whatever one would expect from such a film and it delivers it flawlessly. Dwayne Johnson fits in the role of ex-millitary primatologist as if he was born to do so. He plays his part naturally, which mostly consists of kicking butt and being badass, but he pulls that off amazingly, too. Naomi Harris plays Kate Cladwell, a specialist in genetic editing, who has a personal vendetta against Claire Wyden, her former employer, as she holds her responsible for the death of her brother. Jeffrey Dean Morgan manages to stand out in this film, which is surprising as most characters get sidelined when Dwayne Johnson is in the lead (refer to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), as he plays a smart-ass DoD agent who is forced to follow orders, but at heart a nice person. Morgan's acting, as always, is convincing and awesome.
Malin Ackerman plays the villian, Kate Wyden in the movie. She owns the company that made the pathogen that infects the three animals. Money-minded, shrewd, cold-hearted and no-bullshitting, she acts unpredictably and rashly. Everything one expects from a generic action film villain. However that is not the case as she does something in the film that most action movie villains don't (I'm not gonna say what it is because my reviews have always been spoiler free and will always be). But this movie is far from Ã…ckerman's best performance. She rarely shows emotion in the movie and her acting seems forced. This kind of acting is nothing if compared to her brilliance in Zack Snyder's Watchmen.
The movie has a couple of faults here and there but if you are a Dwayne Johnson fan, an action movie fan or just looking to have a good time without using too much of your brain, this movie is for you.
Overall, I would give this movie a 3.5/5.
