TOP MOVIES OF 2017 (NO SPOILERS)
WARNING:
The movies listed below are what I thought were last year's best movies of all that I saw. Please try not to get triggered because what I post is just my opinion. If your favorite movie from last year isn't on this list, doesn't mean it's bad. It's just that we are two different people with different opinions.
Hey Guys!
2017 was a great year for movies. Sure, it had MONUMENTAL let downs, it had many great flicks too. Today, I'm going to be talking about what I thought were some of the best movies of 2017. They are not in order and I won't place them in order because all of them were so great. I'm not gonna add the movies I haven't so seen, so don't get angry if you don't see The Greatest Showman on this list
Let's Begin
DARKEST HOUR
DIRECTOR: Joe Wright
To kick off the list, we have Darkest Hour. Darkest Hour is a simple Winston Churchill biopic that has been masterfully executed by all the cast and crew who worked behind this stunning masterpiece. Filled to the brim with classic British humor, Darkest Hour is joyous watch from start to finish, and one that doesn't get boring on the second watch. Also, it is Gary Oldman at his best in this film, so one should watch the film just for that reason.
THE POST
DIRECTOR: Steven Spielberg
The Post is a wonderful film which puts forward the question "Where does freedom of press end and State secrets start?" With a star studded cast of Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep and Spielberg on the reins, it would have been difficult for the film to not be on this list. The film follows the editors of The Washington Post trying to catch up with The New York Times to reveal a massive cover up operation of the government.
WONDER WOMAN
DIRECTOR: Patty Jenkins
I guess it's no surprise this movie is on this list. Releasing in May, this Gal Gadot starer is not only the best DCEU movie till now, but also the first comic-book superhero movie in over a decade. It shows the Fast and Furious star as the Wonder Woman, an Amazonian warrior princess who makes her way through First World War torn Europe, looking for Ares, the Greek God of War, believing that he is key to stop the fighting.
DUNKIRK
DIRECTOR: Christopher Nolan
(Seriously, all movies on this list are great but if I had to choose one, it'd be this one)
Honestly speaking, any best movies of 2017 list would be incomplete without Dunkirk. The latest movie by sci-fi director Christopher Nolan marks his debut as a war movie director. The film follows the siege of Dunkirk in the year 1940 as Churchill gives the order for civilian boats to leave for the French beach. The film is a visually stunning masterpiece. It depicts the battle for all its three aspects: land, air and water. Using minimal dialogue and maximum visions, this movie never fails to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Even the music score is commendable. Also, it is the film debut of singer and former One Direction band member, Harry Styles.
LOGAN
DIRECTOR: James Mangold
Logan is the epic conclusion to 20th Century Fox's okay(ish) Wolverine trilogy. The film is set in the near future, with the only living natural mutants being Professor X and Wolverine, who are both old and dying. Wolverine takes longer to heal and Professor X suffers regular seizures which prove, both, harmful to him and those around him. Then, they meet Laura, a New Mutant with powers similar to those of Wolverine. Professor X and Wolverine (now called Logan) find themselves trying to flee an evil madman who wants to destroy all mutants. This movie has a beautiful story. It is the last time that Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are putting on the roles of Wolverine and Professor X. It also introduces us to the new talent of Daphne Keen.
THOR: RAGNAROK
DIRECTOR: Taika Waititi
Thor: Ragnarok is the third and final movie in the Thor trilogy for the MCU. The movie displays the God of Thunder lose his greatest ally, Mjolnr, as he faces off the Norse Goddess of Death, Hela. The movie takes on a retro look, which worked superbly with Guardians of the Galaxy, and mixes the epic CGI to give us something truly awesome. This movie is a fun watch for both Marvel likers and haters. Honestly, the best comic-book movie of 2017.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL.2
DIRECTOR: James Gunn
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the second installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy series and also the second MCU movie on this list. From genius director-writer James Gunn, this amazing retro-style superhero flick never failed to make us laugh and weep profusely, even on a second watch. Even though it is nowhere near to the charm and pure awesomeness of the first one, it's still a very entertaining movie for both, those who like superhero movies and those who don't. It follows Star Lord trying to cope with his daddy issues as the tea tries to help him out. Drax has problems with a woman. Gamora and her sister have a lot of catching up to do. Rocket can't help but steal things and he doesn't know how to wink. And Baby Groot is just super cute. All in all, it's a superb film and I highly recommend watching it.
As we can see, the past year has been an amazing year for cinema. Let's hope the coming year is the same, too. Till next time, folks. As always, if you liked this post, feel free to share it and follow me on Twitter as deadpool6197. Don't forget to leave comments
